Dr Katia Strounina is a multidisciplinary Brisbane based artist whose practice draws on a unique background in quantum chemistry and material science. Received a foundation education in art, Katia then completed degrees in chemical physics and chemical engineering and worked in research environments focused on materials analysis and quantum methods. This scientific foundation informs the precision, material sensitivity, and observational depth evident throughout her art practice.
She returned to visual art after two decades in science, undertaking five years of private study at the Chrome Street Studios (Brisbane), where she trained in drawing, classical oil painting, sculpture, and printmaking under Australian and international instructors, including visiting artists from the Julian Ashton Art School and Italian Art Academy. Katia works across oil painting, wood engraving, printmaking, and bronze sculpture, exploring themes of movement, nature, and anatomy. Her practice includes detailed animal studies, botanical works, and dynamic sculptural forms. She is particularly recognised for her bronze and polymer clay animal sculptures, including her award-winning dog sculpture inspired by her dog Cherry in motion. |

Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout Brisbane and has earned more than seven awards in painting and sculpture categories, including First Prize for bronze sculpture. She regularly participates in community events and exhibitions at Royal Art Society, Sculpture Art Society, Redland Coast Art Society, and continues to expand her practice with explorations in natural materials and traditional techniques |
