Dr Renata Buziak is a Brisbane-based photomedia artist, researcher and educator working at the intersection of art and science. Her experimental biochrome process fuses living plants and photographic materials over time, allowing organic matter to participate directly in the making of an image. The resulting works explore botanical form, organic transformation, and the cycle of life and decay.
Buziak holds a PhD in Visual Art from Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, where she also taught. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, featured on ABC TV Gardening Australia and in the documentary Earth Prints, and is held in private and public collections. A recipient of artist residencies across Queensland and beyond, her practice has taken her from the Binna Burra Cultural Landscape to the Ecoscience Precinct in Brisbane and collaborative residencies at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Her writing has been published in international art and ecology publications including The Mind of Plants (Synergetic Press, 2021) and The New Ecological Epoch (ECOARTSPACE, 2024). |
For Between the Threads, Buziak presents textile works featuring Granite Belt wildflowers surrounding the Piano Mill, a unique structure and instrument in rural Queensland. Translated from her biochrome process onto Deluxe Satin Chiffon, the works take on a tactile presence, extending the relationship between flora, image and material.
