Oxana Arefin

Brisbane

Oxana Arefin is an interdisciplinary artist and psychologist, born in Moscow, Russia, to a Russian-Ukrainian family. In 2014, she emigrated to New Zealand and currently lives and works in Australia.

Her practice spans photography, painting, and mixed media, functioning as both personal expression and therapeutic inquiry. Through her work, she weaves together the conscious and unconscious, the visible and the felt.

Guided by the belief that human experience lives in the body and reveals itself through image, metaphor, and memory, Oxana creates visual spaces where emotion, time, and self-awareness converge. She employs raised forms, translucent textures, and dimensional layering to break free from flat representation—constructing psychological portals that invite viewers to explore the landscape of their inner world.
Her images do not dictate meaning—they evoke it. Each piece unfolds slowly, inviting the viewer not as a passive observer but as a co-creator of meaning, activating the work through personal emotional resonance. This is not art to be consumed—it is art to be lived in.
