Between the Threads

Group Exhibition |

Contemporary Textile Art

Between the Threads brings together eight artists whose practices find common ground in fibre, fabric, and material process, while remaining strikingly distinct in vision, method, and cultural origin. Spanning Australia and overseas, the exhibition celebrates textile as one of today's most dynamic artistic languages, where weaving, stitching, soft sculpture, and experimental materials become powerful tools for storytelling, identity, memory, and transformation.

Blurring the boundaries between art, craft, design, and installation, the exhibition brings together practices as diverse in technique as they are united in material thinking: from fabric collage portraits and Japanese textile traditions, to silk ink works, biochrome prints on chiffon, spiritual totem dolls, feltmaking, contemporary quilting and bojagi, to intimate mixed-media works on home and belonging.

Between the Threads invites audiences to experience the richness, tactility, and conceptual depth of contemporary textile practice and to feel the power of what human hands can make.

    Amon Nyx

Textile-based works combining salvaged fabrics, acrylic, charcoal and ink, where fragments, faces and figures emerge through intuitive layering and mark-making.

    Monique Baques

Mixed-media textile works exploring women, domestic life and belonging through fabric, thread, found materials and soft sculptural forms.

    Lilia Kulikova

Textile works combining shibori, natural indigo, sashiko and vintage Japanese fabrics, bringing traditional Japanese techniques into a contemporary practice.

    Yulia Pustoshkina

Hand-sewn textile figures that bring her painted animal characters into three dimensions, drawing on ideas of spirit animals, protection and connection with living beings.

      Martina Latimer

Contemporary textile works rooted in patchwork and paper piecing, using bold colour and geometric form to explore everyday life, relationships and personal stories.

      Helle Cook

Diaphanous silk works exploring light, landscape and belonging, shaped by the artist’s experience of living between Australian and Danish places.
