Moon Rabbit II

Moon Rabbit II

by Lilia Kulikova

Cotton; natural indigo dye; shibori resist-dyeing; red cotton haori jacket; mother-of-pearl mochi

22 cm

In Japanese legend, the rabbit lives on the moon, pounding mochi in offering to all who look up at the night sky. This handmade rabbit is sewn from shibori-dyed cotton with a bold cloud-like resist pattern, deep blue fields broken by generous areas of white. Dressed in a red cotton haori jacket and holding a mochi of natural mother-of-pearl.
