About the event
Creative Room Art Space invites you to an afternoon of art and conversation with Brisbane-based artist Olga Bakhtina, as part of her solo exhibition Love, Life & the Other Circus.
Join us on Saturday, 21 November, from 1 to 3 pm, for an opportunity to hear directly from the artist about her creative journey, artistic influences and the ideas behind her paintings.
Olga's work is filled with expressive characters, vibrant colours and imaginative narratives. Drawing inspiration from European modernism, particularly the École de Paris and Fauvism, as well as Early Renaissance painting, she has developed a distinctive approach that combines strong brushwork, simplified forms and a fascination with human emotions and relationships.
During the conversation, Olga will discuss her creative process, from early sketches and carefully considered compositions to the intuitive decisions that shape each painting. She will share how her interests in literature, theatre, art history and human psychology influence her work, and why storytelling plays such an important role in her practice.
The talk will also explore Love, Life & the Other Circus, an exhibition that brings together women and animals, lovers and dreamers, Venetian scenes and curious circus characters. Moving between humour and mystery, these paintings reflect the unexpected turns of everyday life and invite viewers to imagine their own stories.
The afternoon will include time for questions and an informal conversation with the artist.
Free entry. Registration recommended.
